Ludum Dare Boss Battle ; Challenger 3
Ludum Dare is this weekend! Introducing our last challenger is none other than our Game Programmer. His name is Jun Hun, but we just call him Jun. Besides being a history enthusiast, he is also our AI whisperer. He's had two game jam experiences, much like our Jia Hui. Let's see what he says about joining Ludum Dare as a fellow Malaysian Game Developer this year.
How were your experiences in your previous game jams?
The first game jam was quick for me because we only ended up making a visual novel with 3 mini-games. That kind of game was simple, so I only spent an afternoon plus an evening. I had nothing to do after that and proceeded to sleep for the rest of the event, which was different from what I expected to do LOL.
The second experience was more of what I expected it to be. We rushed out a rather fun and playable game with mechanics and systems. The game jam was held during the pandemic, so it was as if we worked from home during the lockdown period. Our game (Kingpin) was somewhat whacky, but it was fun to make and play with afterward. It wasn't polished all the way, but we did make a trailer and cutscenes for the game.
Can you win your superior in the upcoming game jam?
Honestly, we probably won't win, but AYYYY it would be fun!
What do you think you did wrong in the past jam that you would do better in this upcoming jam?
Make a tutorial for the game, LOL. Our second game jam game was good fun, IMO. But it looked lackluster to judges cause it didn't seem polished ( they didn't know what to do or see in the game).
Do you have any words for game devs considering joining a game jam?
Sleep A LOTTTTT before the event. A game jam is going to be a loooooooonggggg weekend for you. Oh! Apply for leave a couple of days after. Also, caffeine definitely will be your best friend.
Only a few more days left to the event. Follow us for more updates on the Ludum Dare: Boss Challenge as we reveal THE BOSS next!
